Yea, toolbars and sidebars are 2 different things, and there should be an option to hide the sidebar.
You just need to make sure (and Windows is similar in this regard) that the last window you close matches up with how you want things. It's a little willy-nilly even with that, but it's a start.
OK, get your terminology straight in the first place. Are we talking sidebar or toolbar? Either way, you can turn both off from the View menu.
I actually have those turned on all the time since I have no wish for OS X to be even more Fisher-Price than it is, but it seems to stick through a reboot. What's the problem? They don't stick?
Why are you always such an ill-mannered douche? There's no difference between the two, so my terminology is stellar. And as I said before, the windows open with the toolbar by default and I don't want this.
Maybe because I'm dealing with the typical aggressively ignorant yet egotistical Macheads so it's hard to get in your head to know exactly what thoughts are swirling around in that brain of yours?
Just turn the effiin' thing off from the View menu, whichever it is. If it's not off by default after you reboot the thing, reboot-Cmd-R, fix perms to start with and then start looking at deeper issues.
