Is there a way to password protect a shared folder in WinXP

Like when browsing network and you have a shared folder can you set a password to access it.
 
Disable the guest account and create an account for each user that will be using the shares then restrict access to the shares via groups and user accounts.
 
There is also this interesting freeware: Crunch - encrypt files and folders,

Not sure I'd trust a tool from a site that just says "128 bit encryption" without any specifics on the cipher in use.
