Is there a way to opt out of google+?

Somehow I randomly got dragged into that again, I want out. I think it has to do with youtube, I gave in to the stupid real name BS because I was sick of being prompted every 2-3 video I watch, and now I'm also in google+. It just creeps me out that Google somehow knows who my IRL friends are and suggest them, and I already have random people adding me and I don't need people to know every thing I do such as what I search for or every time I view a youtube video or w/e it is that stuff tracks and publishes.

Any way to just get out of it?

I don't know why you were getting prompted constantly for anything. It hasn't bugged me since I said no the first time.

If I try to comment on a video it prompts me to set up my G+ profile, but I couldn't care less about comments anyway.

You might be able to delete your account and start over. Why did you opt in for Youtube? Never give in. Even easier, never /sign in/. You have to take control of your privacy. If you aren't willing to drop Google completely, at least don't give them more than necessary simply out of convenience.

Oh I did not use my name I was just sick of it bugging me all the time and I did not figure it would opt me into all this other crap. I do have a youtube channel for random stuff, I just hate how they try to link everything now. I could probably easily replace youtube with something I install/write myself though and that way I could also host it myself. Youtube and adsense is the only google products I really use and both can be replaced with a bit of effort.

Maybe that is the best course of action then I can kill the account completely.

Google has really gone downhill since it went public and continues to do so more and more.

I'm logged into YouTube but never use Google+ so it doesn't bother me. I know I have an account but don't do anything with it, don't upload anything to it so I don't care.

Hmm wonder if it only bugs you when you have videos. I should try to make a "viewing account" and I wont upload videos, just to see what happens. For science! Well maybe not.

It seems the only way to delete G+ is to also delete the youtube account lawls. They sure want to push that to everyone, and are really sneaky about it.

Google Plus is just part of having a Google account. You're going to have to get used to it. Everything is going to tie into Google Plus as Google merges things together and pushes for more social stuff. YouTube now uses Google Plus for the commenting system.

I hate how Google is trying to push down that Google+ crap down our throat. I get the Google+ signup prompt often as well and it's getting harder to refuse as it's now requirement to use some of Google's services. I just refuse to use any Google service that requires Google+. I will stop using using Google before I voluntarily sign up for Google+.

Looks like I fell in the trap and there's no point of return then. I probably will end up either deleting my account or just completely stop using it and ensure there are no traces whatsoever on my PC, then change my mac address so I get a different IP and never login with it again. Really I can probably just delete it, it's not like I'm making money off any of my youtube videos, they're just random videos I can easily reupload somewhere else. As for adsense, I need to look at another ad network anyway... though that is the one that pays the most so that is the only thing that would be tough to give up, but I hate to know that I'm contributing to the spying by having the ads on my sites. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Or you could just not get all bent out of shape over it and continue as you have been. Have you given them your personal info? If you have, they have it now and "deleting" won't do squat. If you haven't, nothing to worry about.

I chuckle when I see people complaining that Google/facebook/etc is "selling" their personal information. They can't do that if you don't give it to them in the first place :p

I use my "business" email for all Google things because my site's on Blogger. Maybe I signed into everything on my own too soon because I don't recall any prompts.

I think Google+ is a fine social network, but I absolutely do not like how sneaky they are about getting you involved in it. I recently just figured out I had a Google+ account, and not only did I have an account, but my phone had been uploading all of my pictures for the last 6 months to Google+. Sure, shame on me for not knowing what was happening while it was, but I don't know of any other mainstream program that automatically just takes your shit and posts it all over the web. Thankfully my account is not public, so no one was able to see anything.

I work in the search engine industry. I know what they can find on people, and I don't want any future employers or people finding out personal information on me that they don't need to know. I don't even have anything to hide, but you'd be amazed what a search engine will find.

i made a yt acnt that is seperate from my real info gmail and whatnot. i kept hitting "dont use real name" every time it asked and it finally let me choose to always use the other one when im on youtube.

the google+ auto image upload is part of the phone ap and im pretty sure it prompts you the first time it wants to do that and you can tell it yes/no

that or its in accnt sync settings, it may have gotten moved but it was orig part of the G+ phone ap

Same here. I absolutely will NOT use Google+ now, simply because of their continued efforts to force it down my throat.....to the point where even if they make it mandatory just to use Gmail, I'll switch my Gmail to Outlook or something else. Google is getting too big for their britches. I'm detecting a bit of a "Big Brother" vibe from them.

Same thing happens to me OP and I hate g+ just as much as you do. There is an option in g+ settings that you can delete your g+ profile only. I have used that about 5 times so far I think.

I love Google+ but refuse to have it associated with YouTube. I just denied it when it asked me to convert my account. No problem.

I still sign in to YouTube. Their recommended channels/videos are always excellent.

Then you of all people should know don't even give out that info to anyone in the first place and it won't ever be a problem ;)
