Is there a way to make an international phone call so that the receiver doesn't have to pay a lot?

Say I was in Europe and I wanted to talk to somebody in the US. I assume that if I were to call them from Europe we would both pay the international rate. Would there be some kind of proxy service in the US I could call so that all the extra expense is paid by me and they only pay a normal fee?

Lets say I want to use a normal phone.

This questions is completely hypothetical as I'm not actually ever going to do this. I'm just curious if a service exists.

How would the person you are calling in the US pay anything extra? Its an incoming call. The phone company doesnt care where the call comes from.

YOU pay the international rate. The receiver doesnt pay anything.

If I call someone in India from the US, I pay for the international long distance charge, NOT them. Same thing applies vice versa.

How would a Phone company even charge that? Imagine how many people could get screwed over if this actually existed. I could just go to England and keep calling someone I hate just to jack up their phone bill? Come on!

receiving international calls is free here in the US, I've called home from Europe a few times. Get a calling card to use when over there, rates are not too bad.

Not quite...cellphones, for example, will charge you minutes on incoming calls. This is a special case, of course.

Dont confuse him.

Cell phones in the US will charge you on incoming minutes REGARDLESS of where the call originates from. The inherent question the OP is asking is of a different nature.

yep, listen to that previous poster. Only costs more on the phone your using to make the call, not the person you are calling.

Depends on your phone service. For most people they will never be charged for incoming calls, but that is not the case for all.
