Is there a way to limit the amount of data going out certian ports/services?

Okay...

I would like to limit my file sharing over a network to 5mb/s vs. 10-15mb/s that I'm doing now. And on Agent "newsgroup reader", ftp, http I would like to also limit my bandwidth to about 100k/s. Is there a application or network card that will do what I want? Because some times these services eat up all my bandwidth and I have no other bandwidth left over for anything else.

Thanks

U can buy a router to do this, but if its for home use you probably wont like the price ;-)

U also could build a router to do this..... but would be pretty involved

I dont know of anyway to do it with your nic...

OpenBSD + ALTQ should do the trick. I havent setup ALTQ personally, so I dont know how tough it would be... Check the manpage to see if it will do what you need.

wow n0c, I need to get away from windows/Linux more.... I read up some on OpenBSD and ALTQ... pretty sweet stuff... looks relatively easy to configure too.
