Haven't used Windows briefcase since the Win9x days, but it didn't work so well then. Often it would get confused and nerf files, or refuse to synchronize, or something.

Windows XP has an offline files feature builtin that is generally sufficient for most users. For those who need a bit of extra power and features, try Second Copy 2000.
I use a program called allsync its cheap and works very well. I use it to keep a File server in another state synced with a file server here in Boulder.
