Scroll down a hair, there's a link with a direct driver download. I don't know if that's what you need or not. Google "Windows XP USB 2.0 driver" and look through the results if that link doesn't help you.

XP SP1 or SP2 already support usb 2.0, so why would you even need windows update?

Just go to the motherboard manufacturer. My biostar came with drives and you can download them on the site. The same with my son's ASUS, and my wife's PCCHIPS. . .

Dude, he might have a legit excuse.[like his dog ate his HD]
Don't assume that everyone pirates. Some people actually have problems with Crapo$oft and their bloatware.

Since your "Windows Update" is (cough) botched, you could just use this url to update your Windows XP.

Windows Update

Hey, I believe you have a (cough) legit copy of Windows, as far fetched as it may seem.......to the casual observer.

Heh, mine always gave me a BSOD when I tried to update until I reinstalled. MS has done a better job lately, but it's still plausible.

Another possibility for a "botched" Windows Update is if your system's calendar/time are way off - then it won't work correctly. This one I've seen.
