Is there a way to get the Howard Stern show on the net? What are some good talk shows on the net?

I get terrible reception at work so I was wondering is there a way to tune in to his show from the internet?

Can anyone recommend a good talk show that broadcasts on the internet?

Go to www.live365.com and check the talk genre for talk shows. You can get Stern one one of the professional radio stations found
there too, but I can't help you with that since our company's firewall prevents the site working for me (I can listen at home).

Stern has always been very protective of not allowing his show to be broadcast over the Web. Live365 used to have a stream but it was closed down a couple of years ago.

You can download the whole show, commercial-free, from alt.binaries.howard-stern. I download it pretty much every day, and even use it in my mp3 folder in GTA3 - there is nothing better than cruising around Liberty City doing drive-by shootings while listening to Stern!

Hey, that sounds great!

If I could get Stern and Loveline I'd be set.

You need a newsreader like Agent or the like and access to a usenet news server. Likely your ISP has one but it may or may not carry the group or have enough retention time for you to get the whole show. If you cannot get it through your ISP then you would have to subscribe to a commercial service like Easynew, Supenews, Giganews etc. For other radio shows a good place to look is alt.binaries.sounds.radio.misc

You will realistically need broadband to download the show - I have done it over dialup but it is not for the faint of heart (the show is ~40 MB without commercials). There is a new encoding technology called yEnc that makes the downloads smaller - the guy who posts the show commercial-free also posts it in yEnc. You need a yEnc-compatible browser like Agent, or you can do what I do and use a yEnc proxy with Outlook Express. Go to www.brawnylads.com to get yProxy, a handy little program that I use for this purpose.

Go to www.opieanthony.com and search for "syndication underground". You can find out how to listen to Opie & Anthony on your PC. This is easily the best thing on radio.
