I want to put double spaces between each word to make my essay look a little longer. Any tips?

You could increase the line spacing, change font size, or change font face.

Oops almost forgot: try Format > Font > Character Spacing > Spacing: Expanded > By: x.x pt

You can convert a regular space to a double space by hitting the spacebar :).

Or, you can try doing a Find & Replace, replacing " " with " ".

i think the key combo for word is [ctrl] [2] if i remember, and [ctrl] [1] for double and single spacing, respectively.

Format >> Paragraph >> Index and Spacing Tab >> There will be a drop down box where you can select single, 1.5, double, etc.

You may have to type it all out, select the text, then change it though. I am not sure if it works as you type.

things you can do to make your work look longer:
increase the font size
change to a similar font that is bigger
increase the spacing between each character
change to 2.1 etc spacing as opposed to double space (2.0)

It works as you type as well. The entire paragraph gets affected.

Trust me. Spend time shaping up your essay than making it look longer. It is not very hard to find out whether you pulled tricks or not.

I've never had any problem in making my essays longer.. only problem I have is trying to make my essays look shorter. Now a day, teachers are a lot more clever. My English professor require us to turn in essays along with a disk (preferably in MS Words). He will determine the length of the essay by himself by using his own formatting. So, there were no way around trying to get your essay appear longer or shorter. Technology is your friend and enemy.

The obvious way to do that is just do a find and replace.

Find (hit the space bar)
Replace (hit the space bar twice).

Best I could think of.

Oops! I missed the "between each word" part, when I hear double spacing I think of lines.

Try what everybody has said so far, margins, bigger font, justified, etc.

Play with the kerning of the fonts too, it increases the space between the letters.

Yup. That works too.

Under "Fonts" settings, look for "Character spacing".
