Is there a way to disable win 98 password?
Those computers are logging into win 2000 domain and the win 98 password becomes a problem every time they have to change their login password, because when they change the win200 login password the win 98 does not change and they are forced to enter 2 passwords.

search the computer for *.pwl
delete all files with the .pwl extension

reboot. when it askes for a password just hit enter. next time it should not ask for a password again.

Don't do what aircooled suggested...now users will have no password to the desktop, but will have to do a seperate logon to get to any network resources.

I think there's a way in Win98 to set it to do domain logins, so that it doesn't use a local account, but I don't remember how. Something about the default login server, in the network configuration??

Sorry, don't use 98 much, W2K pretty good to me.

You can also get tweakUI and have it log you on automatically. This way you dont have to mess with it.

Well I've got 5 win98 machines on site that log into our NT domain daily that dont use a desktop password at all. The Domain user logs in and can access the complete network with no problems. As long as you have Client for Microsoft Network checked to log onto an NT domain there should be no problems even if you have chose not to have a password for the desktop.

Thanks for you reply, that was exactly what I wanted to do, and yes I do have it checked to login to domain under client for MS Networks
They do not need access to win98 desktop without need for access to network and if they did all they had to do is hit cancel and that still gets them the desktop but disables all network access.
The only problem I had was that when your domain policy asked the users to change password it only changed their domain account password and after they entered that it still would asked them for their OLD windows desktop password.
The first time you log a new user to a win 98 box its fine because win 98 asks you if you want to use the domain password as you desktop password and if you renter it and hi OK it will never show up until you change the password on you win nt/2000 account
