Is there a way to cure new car fever?

Sluggo

Yes, I have the bug, its end of the year bonus time, and last chance for any end of the year tax deductions. And its really new truck fever, I never buy cars.

Speaking from a fiscal frame of mind, I know better than to go and do it. I drive 35-40,000 miles a year, and can thrash a new truck in 3 years. Compared to my wife who got a new car for Christmas last year, and has a grand total of 9000 miles on it 😀 Her car is always a cream puff.

Speaking from my wantitus frame of mind, I can justify almost anything to myself, thinking I deserve it or whatever. And the new ones are so shiny and hassle free 😀

Maybe if I just stay away from the car lots till Jan 1st, I will be all right........then again maybe not.

Yeah, I've been thinking newer Maxima. But I really don't want to have the money... 🙂

You are the perfect lease candidate....see if you can still get the leases with the unlimited miles....some dealers used to do it...i don't know if you have that option anymore.

BUt that will allow you to drive a new truck every 3 years, without having to worry about selling it or trading it in with high miles.

I'm waiting on the A4 1.8T Cabrio...been sitting on a fat insurance check since October, so no tax break for me (it comes out mid-January, looking at February for custom options).

I haven't seen a no milage limit lease in a while and they were OPEN ended which were BAD NEWS.

Leasing is THE MOST EXPENSIVE WAY to finance a vehicle if you are putting more than 12K a year. Seeing as he drives 30-40 it would be REALLY BAD.

i gave in last month. bought a tacoma 2003 SR5. can't resist the temptation but i promise myself that i will drive this truck till the odometer reading goes back to zero.

I have never heard of an unlimited mileage lease, all the ones I have seen are very strict on miles and expect you to buy more upfront @ about 10 cents.

Isnt that a million miles? Bet you $10 you dont make it 🙂

Wait so you have a 3 year old truck thats ok? Well if you can afford it buy a new truck, go for it.

Personally I would invest the money for retirement, hehe my goal is to do nothing at 55. If you rent you could put the money down for a house, because in the end buying a car is not good investment sense. Hmm, maybe you can buy a one year old truck that is barely used, and save about 20-30% off a new car's value.

Sluggo,
What do you drive now?

One way to resist temptation is to look at that monthly vehicle payment.
Personally I intend to drive my car into the ground.

I got through new car fever all the time, then I think about making payments and then I look at my rising account balances, then I decide to get a few more years out of my current ride.

If there is a cure please share it with me. I'm worried that in 2.5 years when my Accord is paid off I'll buy a new Accord or a VW Passat.

Simple cure - lose your job. Not that hard to do, these days. 🙁

Otherwise, it's more difficult. Tryto find bad things about the new car you're looking at. Be nit-picky.

Why do you want a new car? I mean, is it just because you want to be driving the latest thing on the road? To impress all your friends? To pay higher insurance premiums? Do you think that anyone will care what you're driving once it gets dirty and the shiny tire stuff wears off? If you already drive a truck, why buy another? If the one you have now gets the job done, just keep it.

(I'm trying!)
