Is there a way around Gmail's refusal to send .exe files?

OK from windows explorer...

1 Click Tools > Folder Options
2 Click the View tab
3 Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
4 Click ok
5 Change extension to .exec
6 Email to self
7 Download
8 Rename to .exe (if this is on a different computer with file extensions hidden you will need to do steps 1-4 again)

If the above doesn't work, follow these steps:
1 Go to nearest highway
2 Walk into traffic

1) I do have extensions shown. Its one of the first things I do upon installing Windows.

2) I cannot use passwords or anything but .zip files because the lab computers I'm using do not have software for it and I can't install or run my own software.

3) You all suck

4) I just sent the source files and spent 15 minutes recompiling it on the slow as heck lab computers.

Look at the file name from within Command Prompt and verify that it isn't a .exe.

How do you run your own .exe file if you can't run your own apps?
If you can run your own exe file, then you can run your own apps, even if you have to copy them over to a certain folder first. (I've got quite a lot of programs installed in my documents on my school's computers, though I also run programs off of a flash drive)

I just tried it again in case gmail changed something and it still works.

Perhaps something about this particular exe makes it obvious to detect, I dunno. I'll have to try it with another exe sometime.

Windows (at least pre vista, not too sure about vista) has very bad security controls. If that program can run an exe in a directory, you can likely run an exe in the same directory. Alternatively, try running it from My Documents or a flash drive. It's hard to lock a Windows system down without making it completely useless.

If Gmail allows you to attach a file to draft email, it auto-saves. Then you access your Gmail from wherever else and have access to your file. No?

unfortunately gmail has moran protection enabled, so OP may be out of luck. several people have already tried the exact same thing and it works. post a screenshot...
