Is there a such thing as a webcam that doesn't require installed software?

My brother is about to get deployed and my sister-in-law wants 2 webcams for them where you do not need to install software to use them, I am assuming because he won't have admin on whichever computer he can use. I have never head of anything like that and since google only came up with a service that requires a monthly fee, I am looking to y'all. Please help!

Thanks in advance,
David

Good point, any way that I could search windows for drivers specifically? I know you could search for printer drivers and the like on previous versions but I have no idea about XP.

You might try contacting say Logitech or Creative and asking if any of their cams have their drivers already included in XP.

If the problem is that he won't have admin rights on the system, he probably won't be able to install the webcam even if he has drivers for it or Windows includes them. Just FYI.

WinXP SP2 probably has drivers for the more common ones. And since you (presumably) have internet access to be using the webcam, couldn't you download drivers?

Yes. I know their request is strange, but that's what they asked for. I didn't think it exists but I figured if anyone knew it would be yall. I'll keep searching but it seems like they just need to figure something out.

Agreed, I just figured I would try to find what they asked for before telling them it doesn't exist.

It's not so much a matter of "does or does not exist" as "does not matter."

Your brother will be able to use webcam chat with his family - I imagine there'll be quite a few of them at the computers anyhow.

Make sure you tell him to come back safe.
