Is there a 'standardized' term for mobile/wireless internet?

I'm referring to cards that you can plug into your laptop and get internet without a 'hard-wired' (DSL, cable, phone) connection.

I think Verizon, Sprint, and Cingulair offer this type of service.

What search terms should I be using to learn more about this service/technology?

thanks.

Verizon calls it Wireless Broadband I believe.

Edit: If you google Wireless Broadband it seems to get a lot of relavant hits.

Many cities/colleges, etc. are implementing 802.11 for wireless internet, (although it is technically for LANs) as it allows many more people to use it because of the standardization. The main problem here is the range, as the power output is severely limited for these standards.
Cell phone providers have the benefit of MUCH higher power output and a lot more "access points" (cell towers), but lack interoperability. There is a standard being developed by the IEEE, but because of the fierce wireless competition, that does not mean they will be completely compatible.

Here is a good overview.
