Is there a specific sock I should wear when walking?

Sometimes I go for long walks, 3-4 hours, and sometimes I will get blisters on my feet, sometimes I won't. I guess it depends on the socks I wear? What are proper socks for activities such as this? I know I heard somewhere that cotton is terrible.

That's running socks. I need something more like hiking, for long walks. Hmmmm.

Maybe look into changing the shoes that you're wearing. They are probably the primary contributer to your blisters.

That's what I wear. Wigwam also makes a decent wool blend hiking sock.

Which ever you choose, make sure they're mundane.

Sounds more like an ill-fitting shoe than socks. The way I see it, blisters mean dead skin, means no pain in future. Don't go foot modelling in the future though...

Why don't you take a walk off a cliff, you goddamn fucking pussy.

Take a week off for that personal attack. You've been warned before so this time it's a vacation.

Like our parents always tell us, try walking 10 miles in the snow barefoot before complaining.

I bought some smartwool socks once. When I got home I felt kind of guilty for paying so much for a freakin' pair of sucks. After wearing them I bought a bunch more.

They keep me cool in the summer, warm in the winter, don't retain moisture, and tend not to smell. I wear them when I hike in the mountains.

The problem is your shoes. Socks can help in reduce rubbing. Thick wool socks(Costco sells a set of three for $10) or go to a sporting goods store/REI/EMS and look for some athletic/hiking socks that provide extra padding where you are getting blisters.

Did your parents want you to get frostbite?...My parents just talked about going to/from school, uphill both ways.

Yeah it's something about bacteria not growing in the white smartwool socks. I can wear a pair for three days in a row before they even begin to smell at all. Definitely worth the investment.

But I was just reading my National Geographic (hiking article) and the writer said he went in with wool socks and got owned. He did not elaborate as to why...

I must have really thick skin on my sole 'cause I don't get any blisters are pain on my feet after I do like walks. I just wear those 20 a pack cotton socks that goes half way up your shin and new balance running shoes. Nothing special.

Running socks are the same as walking socks.
They take better care of your feet whilst moving them.

I used to wear running socks even when I had a standing-around job at a factory. By the end of the night my feet were much less sore. They work. Get some.

I recommend the brands they sell at Foot Locker. But dont buy them there. Buy them online for about half the price.
Get at least 10 pair, so you can go over a week without washing them.

Walking socks? I would have suggested hiking socks, but since you're only walking...;)

I like SmartWool too. Possibly the BEST socks I've ever had. I also have a few pairs of wool "hiking" socks I got at Costco...about $8 for 4 pairs...definitely a better price than $15+per pair for Smart Wool.
