Is there a solution for small OEM builders to implement a "Recovery partition"?

Just wonder if Acronis or anyone makes a solution that would allow smaller custom system builders to implement a "Recovery partition". Basically, replace the MBR, check for a keystroke, and if so, then boot into a recovery manager on a small partition, and prompt to restore it to the larger partition?

Acronis Trueimage does this using the " Safezone ". Hidden partition. press F11 at startup prompt will boot the restore software.

I've never been a fan of Recovery Partitions. In order to be safe, the user has to burn it to a disk or thumb drive. If the HDD fails, how do you access Recovery? I buy the Acronis solution if implemented to separate media.

the hp's shipped with these- you essentially could sync your system so after you load (software) everything you could update the partition to have the latest, and burn it to dvd. - then if all heck breaks loose you can restore it (virus?) . i just remove the partitions and use real backup software.
