Is there a Slashdot type site for hard science?

Ok, we know that the people at Slashdot hate MS, Windows, SCO, capitalism, etc. Is there a site that doesn't have any of the IT news or the overbearing bias to it? Something with the latest news about biology, physics, geology, astronomy, etc?

So what you want is a non-Slashdot type site for science, contrary to your title. Huh?

Well, Slashdot like in the sense of gathering news from various places, catergorizing it, and allowing comments on it.

I just don't want the IT aspect, and I would prefer less bias.

When you say "the people at Slashdot", do you mean the community or the editors? The readers (people who comment) certainly don't all hate MS/Windows/Capitalism. It used to be that slashdot readers were like 95% Linux users who hated MS, but for the last couple years there have been a huge presence of anti-Linux/pro-MS zealots there. It's not too unevenly divided nowadays. Most readers use windows, many are anti-Linux, many never used Linux but support anti-Linux viewpoints so they feel better about themselves, and of course there are still a lot of Linux fans.

Certainly everyone isn't anti-Capitalistic there either.

You're right about SCO though -- it's safe to say everyone hates them :)

Well, I was exaggerating a bit to try and be funny (looks like it didn't work though :p), but there are lots of stories about the bad sides of MS, but I can't recall many about the good things. Then again I stopped reading it regularly in 2000.

When I say I want a site without bias, I mean a site where the editors will still post an article about a theory on gravitational waves, even though they disagree with it.

When I say I don't like the Slashdot type bias, I also mean that I don't want to read 400 comments about how stupid the topic is, 5 comments about how great it is, and find only 1 useful comment in the whole lot. That's how it seems that Slashdot is.

I think Chaotic42's comments about slashdot are true, joke or not. It's called "news for nerds, stuff that matters," but it's more of something like "linux rocks, windows blows, we act like we care about bsd, and we kiss apple's ass"

Thanks for the suggestion.

ArsTechnica is a very nice site, and extremely thurough, but it's mainly a computer site. Computer stuff is interesting to me, but I'm looking mainly at the natural sciences like physics and astronomy. Some of the more detailed articles discuss EE things, but it's not really what I'm looking for.,

Thanks :)

Ok, so really the bias you were referring to is the editorial bias, not the community. You are right, the editors will very rarely post pro-MS stories (and when they do, it's either as a joke or with harsh commentary).

I went there when it first started. Then the Slashdot hordes invaded it. I haven't been back since. Maybe I'll check it out again.

Just hit up science.slashdot.org, all the science without the Linux fanboys.
