is there a shortcut key for 'Show Desktop'?

I want to get rid of the quicklaunch bar for better appearance and it'd be great if i could stroke a combination of keys instead (like Ctrl + V)

When I press Win+D, my desktop icons flash for a second as if they're being refreshed, while they don't do that if I press Win+M.

same here. Also, the desktop shows up a lot quicker when i use win+m than with win+d, but i do have an old p133, so you might not see the difference.
