Why should it be a concern if someone submitted a rebate and it making some money off of it? Its not ripping anyone off. When you go to the store and buy something, do you ask the manager if he got his products for wholesale prices or if they were on special clearance from the distributer, and if so, would you demand a lower price?

If you don't like capitalism you should be in OT debating your favorite economic structure.

Besides, 1/2 of all rebates I've submitted, I've never gotten paid, so anyone who takes that risk certainly has the right to pass on the cost of that risk which he assumed.

<< My thread was mentioned so I feel I should respond. I did not buy the CDRW's with the intention of selling them, that was the whole reason why I posted a background story (unless you think I made it up then I would be upset also).

I went to Best Buy at 6AM (my store opened at 8AM) hoping to get a Geforce3, 2 CDRW's, and one of the CDRW media. My store didn't receive any Geforce's but I was able to get one Digital Research CDRW. I needed two because I am trying to build two computers, one for me and one for a family member, so I went to Staples hoping to get another. They had two so I got two since I would probably rather have two of the same and was going to research whether one of those had a better chance of being a Lite-On. I think it was Saturday that I read that Office Max was going to have a Cendyne on sale and since that is pretty much guaranteed to be a Lite-On I wanted to see if I could get those instead. My store was sold out but they put me on a list in case they got more in then they would hold them and call me. I sat on the CDRW's until I found out whether or not I would get those instead and then I would return the other ones.

I may have mistakenly thought offering them to the community was a good idea but I felt I could offer them at a cheaper price then what you can go and buy them for. No I am not offering them for what I will pay for them if I sell them and get the rebates but I am selling them to anyone for a price cheaper then there are in the stores. The Digital Research one I waited in line for in Maine at 6AM for two hours for in late November paid I think $80 for which is now selling for $100. I am asking $70 shipped and will send the rebate in and hope that I get my $50 in a couple of months but $70 is still $30 less for the same thing.

The Pacific Digital CDRW's I paid $100 for and that comes with a $50 rebate and I am asking $70 for that. I am offering that for $30 less than they sell it for keeping $20 of the rebate for profit and passing $30 of it on to whomever buys it. They get less of the rebate but get their savings immediately where as I have to wait a couple of months and if anything goes wrong then I have to follow-up. The DR one I make more of a profit on because the Best Buy deal was that much better.

The UPC's are not cut out at this time because my intention was to just return one of them, now maybe all of them because of the Cendyne's that I got. I honestly thought I was offering something to someone whom might have wanted one of these deals but couldn't get in on them at a price cheaper then they can get them for now and asking for a very reasonable price. If this is not the case then please accept my apologies and I will just return them to the store.

As much as I would love to pick up things for other members when they can't get a certain special I wouldn't and couldn't. I wouldn't because I wouldn't want to buy something that I didn't want and take it from someone else that may be behind me that really wanted it and I couldn't because I couldn't afford, in time or money, to travel everywhere picking stuff up. Those stores are a half hour away from me and I went to work late that day just to get them for myself. If you think my intention was to go through all of that just to make a little money after a couple of months from rebates, I bought them because they were great deals for components I needed.

If I am wrong let me know and I will remove the CDRW's and return them. I was just going by what I felt was a good thing to do, offered a profit that would atleast make it worth what I would have to tie up, and provide someone with a decent deal. If I had the money and time to do all that and give them to you what I would pay after the rebates came back then I probably would (I would ask for shipping reimbursement though :)).

I searched the forums and it seems like a good price in comparison to the other CDRW's that are being offered, higher speed and new, and is cheaper than the stores. I thought this was worth making available.

If anyone disagrees let me know or if you feel I could have approached the whole thing better or have anything you want to communicate, feel free to PM or e-mail me.

Edit- I was asking $75 but dropped it down. I decided on $75 originally because it was half of the rebate for two of the drives, Pacific Digital's, so I would be splitting the rebate 50/50 and I figured the Digital Research was worth the same.

If you dont like the price, then dont buy it. Simple as that. Is it crappy that someone sells it for an exhorbinant premium. Sure, but that is capitalism.
I have to back up Mooncalf on this.
I purches one of his Pac Digital Drives. His asking price of $70 shipped was not waaay out of whack and is lower then you can currently get it from a store (maybe have another rebate on it soon,b ut who knows). I needed one now, I have the same drive already and building a new rig this week and it is the best I can get for the money this week or most likely next.
Nothing wrong with that as far as mooncalf is concerned.

If someone is willing to pay for the price stated, then good for both of them.

If not, then don`t buy it and move on. Possibly the seller will notice this and drop the price. Simple as that.

If the item for sale is HIGH in demand and LOW in supply and if someone is willing to pay for the stated price, "then good for both of them."

Stop whining and move on.
