Is there a router that can handle more bandwidth than the Linksys?

This is related to my LAN security here. I've heard that the famous Linksys broadband router can only handle about 6-7mbps. I need a router for similar security reasons (just forwarding the ports I need), but I need it to handle 10mbps easily. Can the Netgear handle it?

Yup, sure is, it's called the Cisco? series of routers ... I hear you can snag 2500s for cheap now.

If you build your own FREESCO router with 100 Mbit cards, you'll have no problems.

Have a look here. www.nexland.com
This router is supposed to be much faster than the Linksys. They also have a model that does channel bonding/load balancing if you happen to have 2 DSL and/or Cablemodem connections. If you already have a junk PC laying around and don't want to spend the $$$, then do the FREESCO thing.

Practically Networked has reviews of nearly every router out there. They include performance tests measuring throughput on all of them. Linksys scores reasonably well at 4.2Mb/s.

If you need something to handle 10Mb/s, you're going to need to find something with a 100BaseT WAN port. Most routers (actually, all that I've seen) only have a 10BaseT WAN port. 10BaseT is really going to max out at about 5Mb/s. Fastest one they found was the 2 Wire.
