Is there a program that will display what time it is in PC games?

So I don't play longer than I should? A simple program that will just say what time it is? This is for windows 7 if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

1) my G15 has a clock on the display

2) maybe just get a clock and set it beside your PC?

Its surprising games dont have this feature. I use my phone as an alarm. Otherwise, I'll play 6 hours straight. You can also just hit the Windows button on your keyboard to look at the clock in the task bar.

My video card has a separate LCD readout thats supposed to go on the front of the case, but you can detach it and the cord is about 4 feet long, so I used some string to tie the readout to my wrist. Now, if I can program it to tell the time, we may have a solution. I'll keep you posted.

Play Civ 4. :D

There's probably a Free Clock somewhere that can be On Top to perform such an action. In times past, IIRC, I have seen such things. They might cause Performance hits or other issues with certain Games though.

lol, that is awesome. Reminds me of the game Mousetrap when I was a kid.

Honestly, the OP should just invest in a wrist watch. A simple look at his wrist would tell the time well enough.

Steam overlay. Use steam to launch the game to sue the overlay. Doesn't work with allg ames though.

Hah, good luck with that.

I didn't buy a G15 for that reason, but I thought using the clock on there might actually help me to not play TF2 as long. All it does is make me check it every 10 minutes and think, yeah I can keep playing for another ten minutes.

xfire can do this as well as display the fps. It also has an in game overlay similar to what Steam has. You can access a web browser, your xfire and AIM (probably other IM programs too) friends, and record videos. There are many other features that it has, but I stopped using it because it crashes my BFBC2, and Steam pretty much does everything that xfire does already.

I have a G15 that tells me the time but also use dual monitors where I have a clock widget on the second monitor.

When I play CS and TF2, most servers I'm on you can type "thetime" and it gives you the current time.

Otherwise, yeah, get a clock. Just as useful as a G15 and much cheaper.

Steam does this, and you can add non steam games to launch in steam.

groovy, thanks. Clock beside computer (or watch for that matter) doesn't work because you get too engrossed in game to look. Wife yelling/throwing things at me does work, but want something more reliable and less painful. I'll try the Steam.

If it works, get your Wife a Watch. Have it engraved with something Romantic and you'll get Sex and a fully functional Time Keeper. Win-win

You're trying to solve the wrong problem. No matter if the time is on the screen or right beside it, you are setting yourself up for the responsibility of looking at it once in a while, evaluating when it's "enough", etc. That cuts enjoyment from the game and has a chance of failure. Instead, set up an alarm. (Alarm clock, watch, cell phone, whatever that has an alarm and is easy to set.) Then you can just forget about the time and play up to the point when the alarm goes off.

And hopefully the alarm is loud and what you are playing is scary.

This is the funniest thread ever.

My 7 year old hustled me into playing games with him until almost midnight on a Saturday night because I cant read the clock on the mantle from the spare PC.

You could just get a simple wind up kitchen timer instead of a clock. Set it for how long you want to play then the buzz will tell you when to stop. No looking at anything.

Xfire does it perfectly:

The time is so small you hardly know its there.

Games like Anno 1404 actually tell you in-game with voice over narration, "Hey you've been playing this game for a long time now, how about take a break for a while?". Works great too, because thats exactly when I'm about to get carried away.

Haha Normally I tell the game to leave my addiction alone!!!! Though I do wish they had it for civ 4 or any of the total war series because in those games its like "well just one more turn" then 100 turns later its 3 am...

This requires 2nd monitor but if you got one, just place the clock gadget on it and you're done with that. Or just make your phone alarm you when you need to get off from your computer :p
