If you want it to be displayed all of the time, xfire puts a small clock overlay in the right corner of your screen, and it also puts a small fps display on the left side. You can configure the size and location of both of these. Once you install xfire, all of your games will most likely be automatically detected, and all you will have to do is run them, hit the default key of scroll lock + x, and press the config button in the bottom left corner to configure where what overlays you want and where you want them. All of the overlays that you select (you could have a video stream, web browser, etc) will be displayed all of the time, not just when you bring up the menu. Using this you can have the FPS and time constantly displayed on your screen so you can just look up at the top corners of your screen and easily see what they are.
