Is there a program or way to significantly increase the volume of MP3's?

Is there a program or method to significantly increase the volume of MP3's without a loss in quality? By significantly increase I mean at least double the volume.

Thanks for any help. :)

it really depends on the mp3. i can increase mp3's with adobe audition but when you get clipping depends on each mp3.

There's a limit as to just how high they can go before there is distortion introduced.
Closest thing though is an excellent utility: MP3Gain. It changes the volume of a file, but it saves undo information in the file, so you can always get the original data back - it's effectively lossless. If you take it like, into the high 90's-decibel-range, you'll start to get clipping.

My method (patent pending) involves my thumb and index finger, as well as that round knob on my speakers - but I assume this isn't what you are after. :)

I use MP3Gain, as Jeff mentioned above.

does anyone know if MP3Gain will work on MP2 files? I have some MPGs of old Superman cartoons where the audio is way too quiet. I need to be able to split the audio and video streams, then increase the volume on the audio.
