Is there a product that will allow me to watch files on TV?

A guy I know is trying to easily port his "Days of our Lives" collection back to the TV for the non-tech wife, so it needs to be an easy process...
Would a DVD player that supports dvi\avi be the way to go?

It sounds like you are trying to come up with a solution that will work in every situation for a problem that only exists for a very specific situation. Find out what format his shows are in and purchase accordingly. Alternatively you could setup an HTPC...

My non-techy wife figured out how to play TV shows through XBMC in about 5 minutes

Converts pretty much any video format to DVD, then just play it on their DVD player.

Get a philips dvd player that plays divx. Works great. I have one for my mom and daughter. Modded xboxs are great but you can pick up a philips divx for $29 on black friday from circuit city.
