Is there a prob' with 1Gb Ram in XP

Is there a prob' with 1Gb Ram in XP, I'm using and A7N8X Mbo which has 3Gb capacity, can I crank it up?

I've heard that over 1Gb theres a problem in XP, is this true?

Using 1GB with a 9x (95, 98, ME) version of Windows can cause problems. The NT base (NT, 2000, XP) OSes have no trouble addreessing 1GB (and more) of RAM. I am also using 1GB RAM with Windows XP Pro

And here I thought 1GB was overkill for most people.
What does one do to use 2GB or 3GB of RAM on a desktop?

Photoshop? Premiere? Maya? Some scientific visualization or computation application? A combination of the aforementioned all at once? 😉

Well i have the same answer as you only i though 2 gig was overkill thats why i got it Also the last 2 pc,s used RD ram this is my first in sometime that has not . I wanted to make sure i had enough is all.Was a bit leary about changeing i must say im very pleased.

I have 2 gigs and it's running fine. My scanner uses about 1.5 gigs when I'm scanning pictures from slides or negatives.

XP Pro should handle up to 4G just fine, for more you'll need Server or Advanced Server.

Also remember that no matter how much memory you have, each process will only be able to use 2G of if because you're on a 32-bit OS.

For those not using the extra memory on programs and applications, I always like to make a nice big RAM drive out of the extra memory I have. 512mb for the computer, and another 1.5 GB for a RAM drive using 2 GB total.

give it a shot, and if you are interested and have the memory to play with, look up and do a search on creating RAM drives in Windows 2000/XP.

enjoy! 🙂

Ram drives are pointless, any time you save using it is negated by having to copy all the data there in the first place. Once you read the files from the normal disk they're in the filesystem cache and aren't read from disk unless memory gets tight and the filesystem cache is shrunk.
