Is there a modern 5-inch netbook?

I've been looking for a tiny machine with a fast processor to install Mac OS on, but apparently the netbook is dead.

What's a boy to do?

I don't think there was one that small

Not to mention that even if a 5" netbook existed, it'd be running an atom processor, which is pretty much the opposite of a "fast processor." Of course, a full desktop on a 5" display would be insane as well so I do doubt they even came to market.

All netbooks have Atom procesors. :colbert:

A 5 inch netbook? Link one? That's the size of a phone. That makes no sense whatsoever. I own a netbook and the screen size is 10 inches which is plenty small already.

The Asus aiieeeeeeee! was 7". I still have one in all its 800 x 480 screen and Celeron 900 MHz CPU glory.

There might have been some Dynamism.com imports for $1,200+ with 5" screens, I vaguely recall Fuji making some high-end high-price mini notebooks.

lenovo x131e is probably your best bet. 11.6" is probably the smallest screen size you'll find these days. I think you could get an asus eee with a 7" screen once, but it only ran linux (arm processor i think).

The EEE was smaller than 10" but it was super slow. I replaced the version of linux on it repeatedly trying to get it to run just a little bit faster for a friend.

If I'm buying 11" I might as well get a MacBook Air. I want something that'll fit in my pocket, so anything bigger than 7" is no good.

Come on, they made plenty of tiny netbooks back in the day!

There was an HTC thingy too.

My recommendation would be a Galaxy note and foldable USB/BT keyboard. With the proper set of apps, a kickstand and a flat surface you should have something comparable, except you'll be on Android instead of MacOS.

The MacOS part is a pipe dream in any case, as you just won't be able to get the drivers required for the device to be supported.

just use a phone with a bluetooth keyboard.

Those things you posted belong in the same graveyard as this:

Looking at these options you're starting to run into the problem of paying $600 for something that is old, slow, probably used, and small vs just spending the $999 to get a MBA.

What happened is that the netbook flopped. They just aren't very good and people have moved on to ultrabooks, tablets, and larger phones.

You could make the same argument against buying a MacBook Air, but I need what I need and nothing else will quite do.

Oh god those are horrible. Why the hell do you need a desktop OS with a 5" screen?

Hence why they aren't made any more. 😉

Plenty of ~5in tablets though from Chinese vendors. Smartphones kinda usurped the uber-small tablet market as well.
