Is there a kind of game that simulates the driving experience? Not racing, but driving in real life. For example, it would let you know when you did something wrong, like making a wrong turn.

GTA3...

If you drive on the sidewalk, the cops come after you. It might be because of the cop you run over... but I think it's because you drove on the sidewalk/ran a red light.

AShadeOfClear, I have never seen a sim like you mentioned, but would be a cool idea.

Actually Ford made a driving simulator MANY years ago. Were talking 386/VGA. But hey...
Yes they did. I remember playing it a bit whenever I went over my friends grandfathers, since he always had it on his harddrive (he was a sysop of a local bbs).

(edit: it wasnt anything like what AShadeOfClear is suggesting though)

Second GTA3.. though the cops won't chase you for everything. I go through redlights, go on the sidewalks, excessively speed.. nothing. Touch a cop's car.. and they'll start chasing you.

I know there was a Driving School program a while back from Sierra..

If anybody has Driver's Education '99 and wants to sell it to me, LMK.

I've looked for info on this game, and it seems to be the only true driving simulation game out there right now. Anyway, there is no longer a mention of it on Sierra's website, it's no longer listed on Amazon or for sale on any other sites I've found in google search results, and isn't on eBay either. I read a review of the game and it seems to be not so good -- jagged graphics, traffic lights change too quickly, and overall its boring, but I'd still like to try it for fun.

A Microsoft driving simulator? No such beast, but they do make a nearly lifelike operating system simulator, called Windows. It's nothing like the real thing, though.

wait for someone to come up with a driving stimulator program. M$ will come out with its own 'version' in time..
(after decrying the ides/ calling it 'insignificant to its core bizz. process, etc...)

Midtown Madness, the original, is not bad as a simulator. If you fail to follow the speed limit, run lights, or drive crazy, the cops will chase after you. I like to drive the bus and pretend I'm picking up people :)
