you could instead go for a clean animal, for example: a cockatoo. or a parrot.

sure they are a bit expensive at first, but they are great companions. a parrot will not fly away, talks to you, cuddles, and they live forever. (most live a hundred years or more, google it)
They also are intelligent enough to undrestand things like "this person is my family, stay with him" and "do not eat that cake". They won't chew your best slippers either.

Have you actually owned a parrot? I would never consider one 'clean'. And yes they do fly away. I've known many people with escaped birds. They're smart enough and certainly can be affectionate. However they can also be extremely strongly bonded to one family member and want to have nothing to do with other family members. I'd never recommend getting a large parrot for a small child. They can be super temperamental and are a ton of work. The odds of them getting bit when they mishandle the bird are pretty damn good.

She drinks so much water/eats/slobbers/plays that her beard would get absolutely filthy. Add in the fact that she has so called "cotton ball hair" that knots up really easily made us (the groomer) shave her down during her last visit. $75...ouch.

She's still cute! Notice the mouf stains in the before and after here.

In our house, I'm the one that is allergic to animal dander. When my daughter just had to have a dog, she and her mother brought home a Coton de Tulear.

It doesn't shed ("hair" instead of "fur") and has never triggered an allergic reaction from me.

Something I didn't know until recently is that they apparently like Doritos:

Of course, my daughter has gone off to college and so we're now left to take care of the dog...

Ball python:
They're really snuggly, assuming you're sufficiently warm.
Friendly, assuming they're well-fed. (I've been bitten more by cats than by ball pythons.)
No fur at all.
Might make son forget about dogs.

i have two close friends who own parrots. i have played with said parrots even though they had just met me. both guys walk around town keeping the parrots stashed under their jacket (parrot loves it), and they let them perch on their shoulder when not walking. parrot escapes = zero.

i have no problem believing that different birds behave differently, and that owning a bird is not as effortless as i make it out to be, but you have a clear choice; allergies, or parrots.

also, great potential for comedy should one happen to die.

it's a stiff. bereft of life, he rests in peace.

No way man, those dogs are crazy looking. People might question my manhood as well.

Dumb people might question your manhood. But then, those idiots probably wouldn't even recognize it if you don't do frou frou grooming like the french cut.

Too bad you didn't want a larger dog, otherwise I'd say Labradoodle. Gorgeous animals, especially when they're pups.
