Since it seems that Conroe is going to eat up any AM2 cpu, is there any reason to get an AM2 cpu when it comes out?

Just wait for reviews with AM2 Vs Conroe, from reputable sites like Anandtech (obviously) etc. At the moment it doesn?t look promising for AMD from what we know and have already seen, however things may change.
I?m still buying into s939 ATM, i?ve just recently received my new motherboard today (DFI eXpert Venus), and it wasn?t cheap. Now I need to buy a new GFX card as I don?t have a PCI-e variant. My plan is to stick with what I already have and just purchase a new GFX card, then upgrade at the end of the year, be it Conroe or AM2 (which ever is the better purchase "although it will probably be Conroe"). Also by then we should see some good performing (Lower Latency) DDR2 RAM being produced, and good stable performing motherboards that are able to OC quite well.

No, AM2 is going to be one of the bigger dissapointment in recent memory; AMD won't be back in the game until 07, when quad core K8Ls will be rolling out; and there is no guarantee that even then AM2 will ever support K8L, quad core, or their NGMA slated for 08. Plus, AM3 is now rumoured to replace it a year later.
