is there a good free anti virus soft out there ?

guys with the new waves of viruses I got lots of friends asking me to help and I was wondering if there is a good free avir I could recommend them to use

i have it on my gfs computer and she did her own scan last night and it wiped out 6 viruses, so she says.

well Im test driving it now on my machine, seems to be a bit off
it has the mail scan on but it didnt catch any of the recent e-mail viruses

I just started using AVG antivirus free edition two months ago...its great...they update their def's all the time, and its not a horrible resource hog like norton or mcafee...a great program, especially for free!

As far as it know, its just antivirus, not a spam email filter

Im talking virus coming in via e-mail not spam
didnt you read the news ? its everywhere and all good avirs catch these things when they come in

I dont know, I dont open those emails nor do I use outlook....I'm sure it would come down on that virus like a Puma

well you may be sure, but Ive confirmed the opposite
I have it running and it didnt catch them
