Is there a Force Vsync app that works for ATI cards in Windows 8?

My girlfriend likes to play Sims 3, prior to Windows 8 I used ATI Tray Tools, which worked perfectly. However it no longer does in Windows 8, and all of the other methods to throttle Sims 3 down to 60 FPS do not work.

If the Vsync is uncapped the game runs anywhere between 600-1500 FPS, which makes the video card go nuts! It just gets hotter and hotter.

There is no in game option for Vsync, and the Catalyst settings dont work for Sims 3.

So is there a tool like ATI Tray Tools or something else I can use to force Vsync in Windows 8?

Thanks!

Did you try D3DOverrider? I used it a lot when I had my previous Radeon to force v-sync and triple buffering. It's part of RivaTuner. I don't know if it works with Windows 8 though...

Yeah I tried it. It at least runs unlike other solutions, but it still doesn't cap the fps. I tried adding the exe and setting vsync to enable globally.

No go :(

Why doesn't ati include force vsync options for directx games?

If I'm not mistaken there is framerate limiter in MSI Afterburner.Have you tried that?

MSI Afterburner bundles a Riva Tuner OSD utility that can lock the framerate, but won't sync frames. For that, use D3D Overrider.

Not to derail your subject, but how is she getting 600+ FPS in Sims 3? My GF's rig (in my sig) collapses on itself into the 40s during some scenes. Whatever options your GF is using, please share :D

Most of the time it hovers around 120-150, but in some scenes (build mode etc)... it can go up to between 600-1500 FPS.

Thanks for the info. I'm a have to beat my girlfriend, because clearly - she's doing it wrong. Consider me not surprised :p

I haven't installed Windows 8 yet on my rig, other wise I'd try to help. When I get around to that, if I find something, I'll gladly share.

what amazes me is that Sims 3 is almost 5 years old... people have been complaining about lack of Vsync from day 1. But there is yet to be a solid solution for this problem.

I would think that by now there would be a solid solution.

I would figure the community created something, since they love making stuff for that game. I only touch the sims 3 when her PC starts to get Parkinson's.

I'll ask her when I get home if she knows of any v-sync solutions she may have stumbled across.

ive searched the official and unofficial forums for hours... there are a few fixes floating around but none of them work with Windows 8, and all of them seem real hacky...

So I hope you come up with something :)

Just create a profile for the game in CCC and set vsync. If not work try RadeonPro.

http://www.radeonpro.info

Just tried it... program runs... but it doesnt work in Windows 8... FPS is still uncapped.

I think all these issues are caused by the fact that Windows 8 really cracked down on applications accessing other processes...

So people need to update the apps to work with Win 8

Try installing radeonpro with administrator rights.
