Anyone knows... as I am thinking of taking a plunge of getting the Q9550 if it is a E0 version and not the C1. Does the C1 overclock well or not as good as the E0?

I know this isn't exactly the answer you were looking for, but I just bought a Q9550 at Microcenter on Thursday and they had nothing but E0 chips there. So if you have a Microcenter near by, you should go there. Plus it is cheaper than Newegg at only $299.99 compaired to $319.99.

I know this also isn't an answer to your question. I just got a a Q9550 retail on Ebay using Buyitnow, for 298 with free shipping and did the 25% off live cash back for 225. It was an E0 stepping ask them on ebay what the stepping is. I just got it in the mail today.

Good Luck!

I got in on the $229 special Fry's ran last week with an ECS board and it was an E0 retail so it sounds like they're everywhere now. Didn't have a C1 stepping and haven't overclocked my E0 yet but I read that they do clock better. Good luck.

I don't think they came out in a C1 stepping.

What?

NewEgg won't guarantee you a particular stepping if they do have both on the shelf. Asking us is moot.

I got the c1 stepping from the Fry's deals and I just tried to exchange them and the person in the cage say they are all the c1 steppings.

Large vendors don't have C1 stepping and E0 stepping Q9550s.

They just have Q9550s. whether you get an E0 or not is luck of the draw.

True except if you go to tankguys.com they will guarantee an E0 if you order it as such. However, they tend to cost more for this as a result.

Just go to a local place and check the code on the box.

As for overclocking, what are you looking to get? I have my C1 Q9550 running 3.61Ghz 1.3v in bios giving 1.23v under load. My mobo limits me more than anything in that vdroop is horrid with it, but hey it's stable as a rock and load with 4 cores pegged is only 60c.

The chip in my sig is a C1...you should be ok either way. :D

I'm not sure I could go any higher(FSB) with an E0.

Oh yeah, 12 hour prime small FFTs stable. I stopped it just after 12hrs. Ran Intel burn test too.

I'd buy through ebay, just make sure they list it as an SL8PV beforehand. After 25% cashback it should be like $240 max.
