Is there a difference between resetting bios setting to default and removing mobo battery?

Just wonder if there is a difference by going into bios setup and resetting all settings to factory defaults and temporary removing the CR2032 battery on the motherboard.

In my opinion they should mean more or less the same things to the computer but I recently had a problem where removing and then inserting the battery again solved the issue, whereas resetting the bios didn't make a difference...

Hope for some clarifying information.

If you remove the battery AND the comp is unplugged, the BIOS will revert to factory defaults and the date and time will be years in the past. You will have to reset date and time.

If all you want to do is revert to defaults, then do that through the BIOS. You can damage the battery and its retainer clip by frequent removal / installation.

There are usually BIOS settings that can be changed but aren't available in the Settings screens. If one of those was corrupted, you might not be able to clear that just by using the Defaults choice within the setups. Everything should revert with a proper CMOS clear (usually not necessary to remove the battery - follow your mobo mfr's directions).

Ok,

So I guess that one could say that removing the battery is a kind of "deeper" factory default reset of the settings...
