Is there a device you can use to measure decibels?

Just curious.....is there something you can just turn on, and it will tell you at how many decibels your music is playing? or how loud your computer fan is?

kind of like that kill-a-watt, but not having to plug it in anywhere, so that it just "hears" the sound and tells you
 
SPL meter. Ratshack has an analog and digital one, but you can get them online too.
