Is there a decent small sporty car that has a good A/C?

Small cars I've owned/friends owned that their A/C sucks:

Miata
Integra
WRX
EVO
Mazdaspeed 3

I'm sure there are more cars but I've never gotten that much time in.

The only A/C that I thought could pump out cold a/c, still retain adequate acceleration from what its fully capable of doing has been the two following cars I've been in:

C5 Vette
Mustang Cobra

yes they are torque monsters, but from what I've dealt with is the bigger the amount of cylinders the bigger the alternator the better the A/C.

Its pretty obvious, small engines that crank out 120 - 130 bhp or less have low capacity/power AC and hence they cannot cool much. Only cars with bigger engines have more powerful ACs... I don't think you will find one.

My MS3's AC has always blown ice cold fairly soon after starting up... but any car's AC will suck if it's not charged properly.

If you're in an area with a lot of sun, maybe tint would help?

AC on ANY boxster is CRAZY good. I literally got chills if the unit was set at anything above the second click.

Any 911 after the 993 will also have terrific AC.

actually i've noticed that the faster I'm going the a/c works better.... if I putt around in stop and go traffic in the summer it's not as good as say the highway

my wifes accent a/c is one the weakest i've experienced, it got a lot better by just doing a cheapie recharge with a can from walmart lol

but yes like ballmode said, once you moving the a/c is adequate but when you sitting in traffic you are like WTF WHERES THE AIR?

being in Florida doesn't' help

Just go WOT if you want power. It shuts off the AC compressor to give you the power you're after.
When I am in my Civic in the summer with the AC on and I want to pass, I just mat it real good and it shuts off the AC.

for some reason my dodge is doing that when i put a load on the engine now... sucks. if im going up an incline in 4th or 5th gear it will blow hot air until i let up on the throttle, regardless of how hard i push it.

as for little cars with good air, my civic had decent air all around, would cool off faster than my trucks system mostly. until i cleared the system to do some work on the clutch and never finished it.

American brand cars = good cold A/C.
Japanese brand cars = average A/C.

my g35 has excellent a/c - a freezing cold gale in your face. both the heat and cold are very quick to get up to full strength. i'd be surprised if similar nissan/infiniti models were any different.

On older cars, there was actually a WOT switch. You had to go to full throttle to trigger it to shut off the A/C compressor.

On modern cars, the computer can shut the A/C compressor off if you press the pedal quickly, even if you don't go to WOT. Just the quick pedal movement, requesting a lot of power, can trigger it.

I think it all boils down to the engine size as I mentioned earlier, big/powerful engines, even in small cars = good AC, small engines... meh..

You also have nice 3.5 motor spinning a bigger compressor than that of a smaller import.

I think he meant import+small car.

My Focus was a small car, but that cabin could get morgue cold really quick. Comparable Asian cars from that era couldn't do that.

993 Also has a really good AC unit.....

until you have to repair it lol

Ya but my buddies 993 would be so temperamental in traffic in LA that he would turn it off if the car was traveling less than 30 miles a hour or in stop and go if it was above 90 degrees.

Suprised there isnt a whole underground community of guys/gals who soup up their ACs.

My Eclipse GTS had great air conditioning, and was a great car overall (lasted over 170,000 mles with only a clutch replacement).

I don't know if I would call it the sportiest car ever, though. It was still pretty fun to drive imo.

my RX7 i used to have never did that. had a huge power loss with A/C on. In fact it was so bad, i usually had to turn it off when accelerating from a dead stop unless there wasnt much traffic then i didnt worry about it. Didnt matter if i floored it, pushed it quick, slow, whatever, damn compressor never shut off.

In my Civic, i can't tell my A/c is on even from mild acceleration, but its not very cold at all of course. worst A/C i've ever had in any car.
