Is there a CPU that's equivalent to the PS4 or Xbox one?

I want a PC thats just as good as the next gen consoles.

I'm getting a build that has a 7870 GPU because I read that the PS4 will have a GPU thats in between the 7850 and 7870...

Now I'm looking for a CPU....can someone help me?

Fortunately no, any core i5 should be vastly superior for gaming then low-IPC low-frequency 8 cores and even not all of them will be used for games. For games just get the cheapest i5 you won't need anything more for such a wimpy gpu as 7870.

You actually want a GPU/CPU that is significantly more powerful than the console hardware, which is not that great to begin with. But the console advantage of coding to bare metal gives more oomph to otherwise lackluster hardware. PC hardware has to be much faster to overcome the overhead of DirectX for example.

Luckily, any decent quadcore Intel CPU is more than enough for the 7870.

Yeah you get some advantage from optimization, but it's overblown imo. The last generation of consoles had really weird designs that when optimized for gave a huge performance advantage. This time around, the consoles are very similar to their PC counterparts. I don't see consoles holding their own this time around. You don't need to be MUCH faster to overcome the overhead of Direct X. All this talk of draw calls is marketing and the consoles have bad OS overhead this time around. However, I don't see a 7870 doing too well compared to the GPU found in the PS4 since the advantage of the 7870 isn't that much. I would recommend the 7950 if you can afford it, it doesn't cost that much more.

I'm thinking either the Athlon II x4 760k or the FX4350...

Which do you guys think would be closest to the PS4 or Xbox one?

That's me....I'm posting this in 2 different websites to get more responses....

Yeah, I don't think there's anything forbidden about posting across multiple sites. You can't post across multiple sub forums here is all, but you didn't do that.

There's not really any desktop chip that's an equivalent to the PS4 CPU. PS4's CPU is basically 8 low-power low-frequency Jaguar cores, and none of AMD's CPU's on the desktop use those cores. You can get the FX-8320 or 8350 (8320 is better value) which is a native 8-core design with much higher frequency. Jaguar for the most part has very similar "IPC" to Piledriver, though Piledriver can pull ahead in some cases.

I think Piledriver is always ahead, but they become very close when the second execution pipeline in the module is saturated.

No, none. The CPU's in the PS4 and Xbox are the most powerful CPU's money can buy.

just keep in mind that getting hardware that is closest to what is in the consoles will not give you any sort of performance or compatibility advantage for any console->PC ports or cross platform games, and that the only reason to try and make a build this way is just for fun, not value
