been a long while since i used a note 2 but i know i like my 3 much better. off the top of my head, the capacitive buttons work with the spen, the screen is larger with less bezel around the edges (device is not larger than the 2 even tho the screen is larger) . I also prefer the more squared off edges on the 3; makes it easier to hold/more secure in my hand, IMO. the note 3 is not a huge leap over the 2 but it fixed/improved enough minor things that im glad i moved up to it.
I went from a note 2 to a LG g2 and that was a big difference so I know it has to be with the note 3. You go to a 1080p screen which helps the ppi a lot. The 3 also has 3GB of ram and a faster cpu. I passed on the note 3 tho just because the size of the phone is very uncomfortable to hold
I loved my Note 2, but once I got a Note 3, the N2 seemed quite a bit older by comparison. Not that it's a bad device, but the N3 is just so much better in every way. (Faster, sleeker, better screen, sleeker bezels, actually feels lighter.)
If you have a choice, I'd go with the N3 and never look back.
The design by itself is a major improvement, imo. The note 2 looks awkwardly bulky. 1080p isn't a redundant luxury at that screen size and performance wise things should just feel more oiled. It's a ton of small differences on a ton of separate fronts, coalescing to form a greatly improved general experience. I don't think the difference between Note 3 and Note 4 will be nearly as large.
Yes. Better screen, processor, more memory, higher resolution, thinner, sleeker, faster, easier to hold 1 handed.
Owned both & love the Note 3. Imho, the perfect phone.
Yes - after owning and loving both, the Note 3 is a substantial upgrade:
- Much better screen - noticeably brighter, whiter whites, and more legible in sunlight. IMO the first of the truly very good AMOLED screens (with the S5 finally being great). This alone is worth the upgrade.
- Noticeably lighter - it's a big phone and it's easier to deal with one-handed than the Note 2
- Much improved back - it's not 'premium' but feels much better and isn't a smudge-fest
Some less important things:
- Text is a bit sharper, though not that big a difference.
- Performance is a bit better and everything is smoother, but I never had much issue on my Note 2 running CleanROM. Not a huge everyday difference IMO
- Better proportions - more screen in similar body, thinner
