Is there a better CHKDSK utility that is free?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering about the following. Are there any freeware programs that work well for CHKDSK purposes, or is the one built-in to Windows reliable? I need something that will find and attempt to fix any sectors that are corrupt or out of place.

Thanks for any tips!

The Windows utility has always worked great for me. Just run it with the /r switch so that it searches for and automatically corrects any detected recoverable problems.

The last thing you want to do is attempt to fix a corrupted disk sector. If the drive hasn't figured it out and flagged the sector as bad, then entire drive is about to croak on you.

If you want to try to recover the data from a corrupted sector and move it to a good sector, there's Spinrite, but it's not free.
