The problem with questions such as this is the extreme subjectivity. You will see people say AT is the most hostile forum, whereas others will say no. It's also hard to answer the question if you haven't really experienced other forums. My guess would be that there's definitely a more hostile forum out there. There's always one above another. :p However, I'll try responding in the capacity of my experience: AT.

When participating as a spectator, you might say it's hostile. As a new member with the first post ever, you'll more likely say yes. As a senior member, you'll most likely say no. You became immuned as time went on. As an old member, you'll more like say yes because your perception of hostility is biased. You measure it up to what was acceptable at your time.

In my point of view, the forum is less hostile than it was 2 years ago. I admit I've been immuned. Nevertheless, looking from an objective point of view, which I believe I can do, I think the forum is less hostile than it was two years ago. Long ago, being a new member and starting a thread to say "hello" got you insults and "neffing". Two years ago, not being in a circle of friends or kissing butts got you hostility or dismissal (including creating grounds for it if there wasn't any). There's also the fact that the political discussions were moved to another subcategory. Political topics contributed significantly to the hostile environment.

On the other hand, the forum is more hostile than it was just a year ago. The change in members who frequent the forum is a contributing factor to the hostile nature.
I think I speak for everyone when I ask you to kindly (and for the 1,893,439,237th time) shut the fsck up. Attention mongers like you are half the reason people here are so hostile.

PS- It's "immune" not "immuned" counselor.

Careful, she might report you to the mods for a "personal attack"

This board is heavily moderated and thus, many of the verbal assaults that you see on other unmoderated forums would never fly here. Sure they happen, but they are edited out quickly and the poster of them is banned.

It's effective in two ways - one a deterrant for other's to post like that, and two, the ones that do are weeded out.

Sure personal attacks still happen, and calloused comments still are posted, but this forum is very very mild on the "asshole" scale.

You mean, "Is THERE are a forum more hostileTHAN ATOT?"

Where did you learn to write? And where do you get off thinking we're hostile? :)

No, this board is like a playground compared to other forums.

For example, on another board I'm on, you get banned if you:

1. Troll
2. Post a "HEY GUYS IM NEW KEKEKE" thread
3. Post something incredibly useless.
4. Don't read the rules.

Alternatively, if your thread gets locked instead of you getting banned, people can pay $10 to give you a brand new shiny custom title that will probably say (in big red letters that take up half the screen): "I AM A STUPID DONKEY FVCKER THAT CAN'T READ THE RULES. IGNORE EVERYTHING I SAY BECAUSE I AM AN IDIOT."

Now THAT is hostile. :)

However, the upside is that 99% of posts are thoughtful, funny, or well written. New threads are often provocative and members gladly contribute great stories instead of what you see here (i.e. badly spelled/written 1-line long replies that don't give any details).

GBS and a couple other discussion forums are open to the public for the time being.
If they were free, SA would be inundated with trolls and idiots.

Every time I try to go to the forums I just get the login screen. It used to be open for viewing a little while ago, but after looking at like 3 threads I just got kicked back to the login screen and cant go back for a day.

It seems to be totally restricted from the public now though.

try religion and politics...
lots of fanatics and zealots there, no room for your own opinions...
