Because anytime somebody comes up with an idea to just spend what we make, the other side spends billions of dollar on commercials making him look like Monty Burns. Just look at what happened to Arnold in California.

I had to google Monty Burns.

How are we an anypower with an economy like this? 😕

?

The ecomony is super healthy and still growing. I can't remember a decade where everbody in my family has done better.

THE ECONOMY IS SUPER HEALTHY? LMAO

Which country are you living in? It can't be the USA!

911, Iraq, and Katrina, did I miss any? America is still trying to recover. American spending and paranoia have never been worse, not to mention one of the sadest administrations in US history!

Do you have any idea how the economy actually works, or do you just pull this crap outta the democrats webpages? Dispite all the fear mongering that they do about the economy, it is very strong, hence why the feds have been raising interest rates lately.

Maybe schools in Hawaii < CA schools? 😛

The economy grew at 4.3% in the 3rd quarter this past year despite the effects brought about by Katrina and Rita. The economy has grown every quarter for the past couple of years. Inflation is steady. Unemployment is holding steady at historical lows.

The only real economic complaint is the deficit. Unfortunately, that can only be solved by getting Congress to stop spending like drunken sailors. But since they can't even agree to reduce the rate of automatic spending increases in the budget...that is unlikely to happen.

that made me laugh. I used to think the same thing, but now I know better.
A drunken sailor spends his own money and usually regrets it shortly thereafter. Congress spends everyone else's money and couldn't give a flying flip out it.

😉

Hmmm. Good point. Better analogy anyone?

How about drunken politician? 😉

but china is gonna kick our azzes very soon.

It simply isn't going to happen for a long list of reasons I am too tired to go into.

with you being one of the brightest people around here, and one that i genuninely enjoy reading from... i would love to know your reasoning on this. when you are not too tired, let me know.

🙂

Think how far they are behind the rest of the industrialized world. Add to that a HUGE population of which the overwhelming majority live in complete poverty. Consider the issues on the horizon when it comes to energy and othre scarce resources. They are communist so the government has to provide everything and most of their people have relatively little power to shape their own destiny under such a government. Their economy is mostly dependent on exports because there is not enough wealth in the hands of the common Chinese to support their own economy. They rely on basically subjegated slave labor that cannot afford the junk products they make (I realize that statement was rather redundant). That slave (low cost) labor is their only comparative advantage on an international level. For the Chinese to raise the standard of living for the entire population they have to loose their advantage of cheap labor over time. They do not innovate. They do not make high quality goods for the most part. They have a large military yet they have no ability to project that force off their own continent. They are not by nature a benevolent and charitable nation. There are many more things to consider but this will give you some food for thought.

They are basically exactly the opposite of everything that has made the US great in the last century.

agreed

I stopped reading when you stated that China are communist, the validity of the your post just washed down the drain.

NEWSFLASH, China hasn't been communist for about 20 years. They are a totalitarian socialist country. The government doe not provided everything anymore. They used to provide jobs that you can't be get fired, not anymore. They used to provide 100% medical reimbursement, not anymore. They used to provide almost-free housing, not anymore.

It is amazing that we have people talking about China as if they were the expert on the country and yet has never stepped into the the country in the last 10 years. Information you get from western media is not the most reliable source on China, and certainly a lot of it are either outdated, exaggerations, or outright propaganda.

I have a job that puts food on the table with some left over for a computer. Seems pretty healthy to me.

China is not as backwards as you think. The US has maybe a dozen or so cities with populations of >1 million. China has over 100. And those aren't cities made up of shacks and cardboard boxes. China has more CELL PHONES than the US has citizens. Their society has undergone a massive switch in the last 10-20 years; I think some of you are underestimating their strength. That country is communist in name only.

We have more advanced tanks, planes, and missiles than all but a handful of nations. We can put troops in any country in the world on a few hours/days notice.

Our economy is the largest in the world and still growing. We have the best universities in the world. We have more patents than any country. We have some of the best minds. The primary language of the internet and business world is English.

We are the only hyperpower.

But that said, we cannot defeat the entire world in a military conflict, nor should we assume we will always be in such a powerful position.

Yep, except it's nothing to do with North America. 😉

Our time as a super power is limited. start brushing up on your mandarin now.

That always makes me laugh.

It makes you laugh huh? Then maybe you should tell all those left wing idiots to stop b!tching about outsourcing.

Mandarin is emerging as a new language of the business world. Get with the program. As much as I hate to see America start dropping off, at the same time I must accept the truth.

As far as the US economy goes I believe only one of the G7 countries has been running a surplus the last few years and it certainley isn't the US. All the spending, especially the never ending war are definatley bringing down the economy. China had a $12b surplus compared to the $66b US deficit in October. The US's time as the only superpower will continue to decrease as long as that trend continues.

China's actually number 2. The one thing that sets them apart from us is their large, in-country oil supply. Because of this, we may soon be their b!tch.

Even though we virtually own Iraq, I have a feeling that we're going to be leaving that area as soon as Bush is out of office. With any kind of luck, the region will settle down and things will establish some level of stability so we can at least buy oil at decent rates.

In addition, large portions of the record setting US federal deficit are held by guess who... banks and financial institutions in China.

And just to re-fresh our ADHD-impared memory, we had finally balanced the US federal budget... prior to the "mission" in Iraq.
