Yes, a udma 66 cable will work on a udma 33 channel.

Yep, I am using a U/DMA 66 cable with a U/DMA 33 DVD-ROM and a PIO 4 CD-R

How do you get it to fit? I can't use an UDMA66 cable on my UDMA33 controller on my Abit BE6-II cause the UDMA66 cable has one hole missing so requires a socket with one pin missing. Maybe UDMA66 cable can only work on UDMA33 channel on certain motherboards

hmmm, well I don't know about the "key" thing I've never run into that... if the cable has a blocked out pin I just drill out the hole, as far as it always working.... not always, I have had a couple compaqs not work with those cables... some older PB's won't either

The UDMA-66 cable has the same pin layout as a UDMA-33 cable. The 66er just has more grounding lines between the signal lines to prevent signal interference.

I think so too, cause BE6-II has UDMA66 and UDMA33 right next to one another, so they've made it impossible to get them mixed up. Trouble is I'd actually like to use an UDMA66 for my third HDD (which is on UDMA33, other two on Ultra66). Maybe I'll have a go at drilling

Did you check to see that the 'hole' just isn't blocked by a small plastic plug. ?? Technically, the missing pin, and the signal on the pin, identify the interface as 33 or 66, BUT i think that IBM recommends ATA66 cables even for ATA33 interfaces due to the fact that the extra ground wires produce a more stable signal. Actually, they do not reduce interference, the signal becomes 'cleaner', that is after the trailing edge of the data pulse, the 'ringing' is reduced.

All IDE cables can have the plug! It's to key it and make sure you don't connect it backwards. It's unused or extra ground wire, I dont remember. I've been pulling/drilling plugs since way before there was UDMA-66...
