Hmmm I'm really undecided here. My comp is already stable at my target OC with a retail HS & fan... All I want is to get my temps to drop from a 48-49C under load to maybe a 42-44C (hopefully better) I think the GC68 should be able to do that for me.... although the alpha is very nice and could drop me to lower temps still...

I don't know what to think.... I'm leaning towards the GC68 but I'm still undecided

*edit* and a 60 mm HS & fan is out of the question, the noise is more than I care for.

yeah me to i have a 800 duron and i dont oc at all. im just trying to get to low cpu temp

btw does case temp play a big role in cpu temp? say 10 degrees C

afaik, the durons at that speed don't put out all that much heat, if you don't OC the GC68 should be plenty good IMHO.

Case temps matter because that's the "cool air" for the CPU... a nice low case temp is essential to get a low CPU temp :)

As an owner of both the 8045 and GC68, I can safely say that the Alpha is a better HS (using with a Sunon rioght now as the L1A just didnt cool well enough for me at high OC. I have the GC68 on a k7s5a, xp1700 running at 138fsb and it cools jus fine. If you aren;t doing any banzai OC'ing and already have your motherboard in the case, go for the GC68! I have it with the 30cfm fan blowing on the HS (thats the way it came too). My full load temp is 41-42c with a case temp of 26c!

8045 is great, but is a major pain if your comp is all hooked up already. Luckily, I installed mine before I got that rig up and running. The GC68 blows away any 60mm HS/fan combo in both performance and sound. My temps dropped about 5c from the stock AMD hs/fan!
