Is the stock amd heatsink/fan good enough???

Building a new pc for my nephew. Honestly, the only thing he's gonna be doing is web browsing/kid games. Nothing that would tax the system. Is the stock heatsink/fan good enough for cooling?

If you're not overclocking the retail heatsink is fine, unless you live in a climate where its really hot.

Its a AMD 2400 with a Asus KT400 board. I live in Manhattan...kinda hot right now 🙂

its should be fine. i would take off that white junk, lap it, then put some ASIII.

Don't bother to lap it and you don't need to change the thermal pad. If AMD is giving you a 3 year warrantee on the cpu, you can be dead certain the retail hsf will be more than adequate, if you're not overclocking. In fact, it would more than likely suffice for mild overclocking.

^ what he said. Make sure to have one 80mm exhaust fan on the rear of the case (besides the PSU fan) and don't let him box the system into a computer hutch or something where the heat builds up.
