is the slk-900 worth it over the slk-800?

well, im looking to build a silent system. so, will i get much better cooling from an slk-900 + zalman ZM-F2 (20 dba/38cfm @ low speed) than a slk-800 with some fan (about 20 dba)

thanx

Unless you are going all out on some super high-end processor it is prob not worth the extra money unless you are really overclocking. The 900 will allow you to use a larger fan that will give you more airlow at the same noise. What are you planning on using for a processor?

2100+ tbred B. price isnt really the issue. i will overclock a little bit, whatever my setup allows. but first and foremost is silence 😀

I agree with EdipisReks...hanging 430 or so grams of copper off you cpu socket on the motherboard is just something i cannot bring myself to do...the SLK900 incorporates using the four holes and bolting it to your motherboard, Alpha 8045's and Swiftech CMX 462's use this system and I like it much better versus the "clip" system of the SLK800...If your motherboard will accomadate the SKL900 then by all means it is the way to go...Gey you a nice 92m/m Panasonic Panflo and you are off to the races, with one of if not the best air cooling solution for socket A systems..

i would get teh panaflo, but i am canadian, and im ordering my things when i go on vacation. i would rather not order from a million places. but im buying from newegg and frozen cpu. (zalman, 2100+ tbred B, 3 zalman fan mates @ newegg) (panaflo L1A 120mm x2, slk-900, Zalman ZM80A-HP @ frozen cpu). if anyone can findme all the stuff that im ordering from frozencpu, plus the 92 mm panaflo l1a, it would be great.

EDIT: its gotta accept money orders too 😀

That's the one advantage to the SLK-900 in this situation: T-bred Bs run much cooler than Palominos and As, so even the SK-7 will do a good job- it's performance is nearly that of the SLK-800. If you'd rather have the SLK-800, then get that over the 900 for the price difference.

Depending on the fan, you can also use a 92mm fan on the SLK800. I have tried 3 different 92mm fans and they all fit just fine on the slk800. You might have to bend one of the clips a little, but that's easy and easy to bend back if need be. I am using a 92mm right now on my slk800.

I just bought the SLK900 for my new 3.06 P4. It weighs in at 584 grams. I just could not stand the whiney little fan that came on the stock hsf with the P4. I'm going to put a Panaflo 92 mm that rates at 35 DBA, which I will be able to stand instead of that whiney whine throttling up and down as the CPU load changes on the stock hsf. However it does not fit in many AMD boards due to the capacitors being too close to the socket, which would require bending for a secure fit, so I would check that out before getting one.

That's a good point about the capacitor clearance. Thermalright has a small database for board compatability with the SLK-900 on their website.

yep, already checked that. gonna get the 8rda+ which is approved on their site. thanx for the help guys. i tihnk im gonna get the zalman 92 mm and slk-900. thanx for all the info 🙂
