if so what would I do to capture video from it,hook it up to a pc and then what?
thanks
It is a 9 pin serial port.
I llooked at Tivo setup manuals and they can connect to this.I have a hard time picturing an old time serial bus transfering MPEG 2 video.
But if this is what is going on someone please tell me and what software would I need?

The serial ports on recievers is more for firmware stuff than transferring any data. Most revievers have either a Firewire or USB ports that can be used to transfer video.

On a TIVO box that serial port is used to control a Satellite or Cable Box
so when you tell TIVO to Record it Automatically Turns on & Switches
the Cable / Sat Box to the proper channel ... it may also be used for box
software updates as TheFro stated

Here is a link to all the USER Manuals at the TIVO site .. just pick your unit
from the ones shown
