IS the resolution from the third iPad significantly more noticable than the secondgen

Been contemplating on buying the ipad 3rd gen for some time now. I am going to be using it like a computer and mostly reading.

Yes, it's noticeable, especially when reading. With the older generations of iPad there was a limit to how small you could make text while maintaining readability. With the newest iPad it's possible to set the text to smallest setting and still read it quite easily.

It's definitely nice, but if you could get an iPad or iPad 2 for cheap I'm not certain that the upgrade would be worth the extra cost.

Honestly, not as much as I expected. When I looked at them at Best Buy, I couldn't figure it out at first glance - once I figured out which was which, I could tell, but it really wasn't as mind-blowing as TheVerge et al would have you believe.

I couldn't see much difference.

Go to the apple store and have a look, its going to depend on your eyes.

If by text you mean ebooks then I'd have thought the ipad2 would be fine.

Huge difference. Went from a two to three at work. The new one is much better for reading and looking at text. I do a lot of document reviews and spreadsheets.

I often configure new ones for other employees. Easily noticeable if it's a two or new one. Easy way to tell is to look at the status bar. The icons are very grainy. Apps are easy to tell as well.

For games of they are optimized it looks better on the new iPad but it's less of a difference compared to text.

Its a gigantic difference.

I purchased the iPad 3 when it came out. It has a great screen. Actually a fantastic screen. Used it for about a month solid.

Got a new job and was given an iPad 2 from work. I use the iPad 2 exclusively now since they pay for my 3G service. My girlfriend has my iPad 3 and its a very noticeable difference.

From someone who has actually used both quite a bit, there is a big difference. I wish I could go back, but I gotta use the iPad 2 for work.

If you've used an iPhone 4/4S, you'll be a bit spoiled by having a Retina quality screen. It's not that it immediately pops out to you as looking amazing when you spend a bit of time with it, but I think it's impossible to go back to and comfortably use an iPad 2.

Well worth it if upgrading from an iPad 2. Hold off if you currently have an iPad 2. The next iPad will have a significant performance bump.

Do you have two eyes and a heart?

Yes. It is a dramatic difference. But I still might pick a refurb iPad 2 for $320 over a iPad 3. But I'd never pick a 399 iPad 2 over a 499 iPad 3.

This is exactly my sentiment.
Biggest advantage is the resolution and the upgraded camera but when you can get an iPad2 for $180 cheaper, its a little more difficult to choose.

I got to see the new iPad for the first time today in person at the Apple store. The screen was nice for sure but it wasn't OMG it's super awesome difference. I browsed and read some articles and looked at some photos. My wife said it was basically the same as iPad2 and I agreed. The trip saved us $500.

I like to read a lot of news using tablet/iPad, and the iPad 2 is absolutely terrible due to the low resolution and large screen. The new iPad (too expensive for me to purchase) is however, absolutely stunning clarity. The font can be so tiny, yet so legible.

I serious believe those who don't see a difference simply don't know how to compare two screens.

You need to have used both for a decent period of time.

Yeah, when I looked at it in the Apple store, I wasn't like 'wow! This is awesome!' it was really only after I was using a 3 for a few weeks and went to look at an iPad 1 and was like... Ugh.

Having said that, I don't think I'd sell an iPad 2 to upgrade to a 3. I'd probably hold off a year since its essentially the same hardware.

don't fault theverge for your shitty eyesight.

and a lot of time I had with both. Huge difference between two displays. iPad2's display is simply not legible enough for web reading.

Uhhh... Yeah it is. Lots of people. Millions, actually, used an iPad 1&2 display for many, many wonderful things over the course of the past year

Yes it's very noticeable, my mum has an iPad 2 and I've the iPad 3 and whenever I look at hers it looks pixelated, and blurry.
