Is the new PS2 Harddrive just going to be pretty much a regular harddrive?

I've seen pics, and all it looks like is a hdd with some kind of bracket on it and a ethernet thing on the back. Anyone know if this is hackable? Like what people do with Tivos (taking out the hdd and putting in a different one).

If it is, then I might just buy a hdd seperatly and put it in. I don't much care for spending $145 for a small harddrive and a 10$ ethernet controller.

Kinda hope its not a regular Hard Drive... its Gonna get busted or screwed up from being moved and kicked and stuff..... Hopefully more like laptop drive ?

mostly as a data cache....Final Fantasy 10 installs data onto the HD to reduce load times between scenes/levels. Ace combat 4 is supposed to do the same.

And Jaytel basically just said all that is known of this. Sony is frustratingly hush-hush about their new HD or internet access for the PS2. I've asked around and still have virtually no idea about internet for PS2...supposedly its supposed to be here next month. Will it be? Highly doubtful. Who knows? Anybody? Are there any actual sites with a clear and concise picture of what we can expect?

Actually its not a small one, its 40gbs. Unlike MS strick "no install" policy you will have to install games to a hard to get the game to work. With the XBOX the XBox will cache files and delete when its done. There will be no installing on the xbox

i would think it would be similar to a laptop HD because it would have to be more sturdy than a standard one.

Gamespot has a preview of Tony Hawk 3...they mention that they used the internet for it to play online....scratchy at best, I know, but it's a start
