Is the MSI "K8N Neo2 Platinum" the board to get for AMD 64 overclocking???

Been reading more and more about this board and overclocking and wanted to know if this was the board to get if I plan to do some overclocking.

Its a very nice board I hear (mine is arriving middle of next week) for OC'ing. That is if it works. MSI's quality control is crap. I'm getting a combo from monarch(where they assemble and test it before shipping). So hopefully that will spare me some RMA's (Watcha bet they just assemble it and through it out the door... heh)

How high do you wanna OC and are you using air, or water?

If you only need to do a slight OC, say 30mz, then the Asus A8V is a rock solid board.
If you wanna go for extreme OCing like 50mz and up, then you need the MSI, but like others have said, the board is picky to set up. Some do it right and have great results. Others F it up then RMA the board back saying it was defective.

If you are OCing on air, the highest OC you would probably reach is about 20mz. Yes, I know, some have done some great OCs on air, but 220mz is 10%, and that's a great OC. In which case, the Asus would be your board. But if you're trying for the insane like 250, or even 300mz, the you'll need the MSI.

Yes I plan to just cool with air and no I don't want to do any extreme overclocking. Sounds like the Asus might be better for me. Thanks for the info!

I have done some minor o/c with mine and have had good results. I haven't had the problems others have had with this board. It has been solid and stable. There are a few settings in the bios that my system is pickey about like aggressive timeings have to be off, fast wites off. I have stock cooling on my AMD 64 3200 and it runs low 40's @ idle.

I bought this board for its OC'ing ability. I just received it today so no review yet. I did order from Monarch and it took several days to ship. I called to ask why and they told me that they had problems during the combo testing and determined it was the MB. They got another one, tested it and shipped it out. Getting any MB pretested is a good idea IMO. This potentially saved me a ton of headaches this weekend. Thanks Monarch.🙂
