I use a nerdy SteelSeries mouse pad at home.

Steelseries here too. First real mouse pad I've ever owned, works perfect. But I believe that anyone can get used to anything, so I don't really think that mouse pads are necessary. I didn't use one for years and I'm no better with one.

I use a huge one.

The biggest Xacto knife cutting mat I can fit on my desk is my mousepad.

In college I burned a hole through the laminate of my desk with my mouse so I learned my lesson.

Well, without a mouse pad, my mouse is super noisy sliding across my desk, and it's uncomfortable, and it causes both the desk and the mouse to wear out faster.

So yes I use a damn mouse pad.

i recently started using one again. now that most mice can be used on most surfaces, you dont really need one anymore. they made more sense with mice had balls or crappy optics

steelseries fabric pad here.

I need it because on my table the mouse won't slide well.

Sensor problems with surfaces are not a thing anymore, I think it's mostly about sliding correctly nowadays.

Thank god the ball mouse pads (those with a surface made of pyramids) disappeared, it always made me barf to see people using optical mouses on those mouse pads not realizing what they're doing.

I use it. Reduces wear on the wooden desk or the mouse itself. I find it also glides better.
Ditto. And as a claw grip user it's easier on the sides of the fingers if I'm dragging a bit.
