Hello all, I am looking for a used car, and stumbled across this one. A dealer is selling a 2000 Eclipse GT. I've heard some people say this is a girls car, is it? I am seriously interested in this car, it's selling for about $8,000. Will this thing be a gas guzzler(it has a 3 liter V6)? Also are Eclipses expensive to insure? What about repairs/reliability, this one has 75k miles... Thanks

If you call it an "eclipse" it's a girl's car. If you call it a "DSM" it instantly becmoes more masculaine because acronyms and numbers are inherently more masculine than names.

almost all Mitsus suck, girl cars or not.

Decide what you want in a car (style, reliablity, mileage, power, size, insurance...), then find the types of cars that would suit those requirements. THEN start looking. If you see what looks like a good deal before you know what you want, your mind will be making up ways this car would be "the perfect car for you", and you won't realize how much you mislead yourself until you buy it

what does DSM stand for anyway? I know it refers to the older Eclipses, Talons, and Lasers but what does the acroynm stand for?

It's a good car for you if you are:

a) a girl
or
b) a greasy skinny ricer who wants people in every other car to laugh at him

As always with this car I would advise to steer clear. It's got no power, no reliability, and no style. That adds up to crap.

Alright I get it, so who's got some suggestions for a cool looking fast import?

Just wondering, did Mitsubishi pay Craig Lieberman a sh!t load of money to make the eclipse one of the main cars in both fast and the furious movies(I know it was a pre 2000 eclipse in F&F1 but why?)?

I think they did. F&F2 had even more mitsubishi action. Mitsu whores. Ricers like mitsubishis.

There are lots of cool looking fast imports, but none in your price range unless you start going a little older.

I definitely don't associate Eclipse's with girls. Around here all the girls drive Civics, Beetles or Jettas. The new Eclipses are butt ugly though. I liked the late 90's Eclipse Spyders with the rounded edges on them. Cool looking cars. I have heard bad things regarding reliability though. Also they are pretty sporty so insurance might be high. Cool car but I don't think I would go for one.
